State-Based Plot Coloring

CS 426 senior project
Team #36
University of Nevada, Reno
CSE Department
Spring 2018

For many years, people have suffered from physical and economic damage due to the failure of their machines. To identify the conditions of machines, they needed to open the machines and check what are the problems with their machines. It is not a convenient and efficient way if the structure of the machine is very complex, and the size of the machine is huge. To solve the problems, General Electric (GE) company designs a software called "State-Based Plot Coloring" to visualize surge data from machines in different plots to support users to detect problems within their machines.

State-Based Plot Coloring is a software application which helps users to easily understand the conditions of their machines by visualizing data from their machines. To display data from different machines, plotting methods are used to help users identify what states their machines are in and if there is any problem with their machines. The software displays data with different colors in a Trend Plot, a Cascade Plot, and a Bode Plot. When there are overlaps between states and different machines, the software displays the overlapping states and machines in a user-friendly way, which helps the users check the relationship between different machines and detect problems within their machines.
